I have to say the idea of gift vouchers came to my head some time ago, but then I kind of left it… As the time went on I forgot all about ….until yesterday… I had my first request from a lovely lady that wanted to order a gift voucher for a Baby shower gift… How lovely is that? I wouldn’t mind a gift voucher for a good pair of first shoes for Oscar at my Baby Shower… I would take it out of my cupboard when he would start walking and order a pair of new, good shoes.. How good would that be??
I love the idea that my little shoe business is developing the way my customers want… I take on board all the feedback/requests and I want to address it as much as possible (and of course the quietest I can). In saying that I’m hoping to have something in place for the Gift cards over the next couple of weeks. My next little project is to organise the gift cards/vouchers.
I better get back to work then.
I’m looking forward to see if the gift cards would be something you would like?
Happy Monday everyone! I know it's not Friday but it's the beginning of a new beautiful week... remember new opportunities are waiting...
Today I would like to share with you this quote that I really like...
What I really love about them... is the fact that they contain someone's personal history...I find myself wondering about their lives. I can never look at a garment... without thinking about the woman who owned it. How old was she? Did she work? Was she married? Was she happy?... I look at these exquisite shoes, and I imagine the woman who owned them rising out of them or kissing someone...I look at a little hat like this, I lift up the veil, and I try to imagine the face beneath it... When you buy a piece of vintage clothing you're not just buying the fabric and thread - you're buying a piece of someone's past.”
― Isabel Wolff, A Vintage Affair
This quote is about the vintage clothing but it got me thinking about Gucio shoes.
A bit of history about Gucio shoes...
They are designed and made until today by Slawek Piwowarczyk - the owner and founder of the company. He originally made them for his own children, because he couldn't find anything worth buying. At the time he didn't know that will become his passion and his career. He then started making shoes for his friends' kids and so on...Initially the shoes were made in his small 3 bedroom unit (bathroom, kitchen and anywhere where they could find space to do it). Slawek always mentions his wife as a big part of the family business, she is behind all the logistics. 20 years on and the business is going strong, selling in many European countries as well as America and Canada, recently Columbia and of course now Australia.
Slawek is still passionate about his shoes and his shoes are a truly art of work.
I feel very proud to be a small part of this amazing story. And I feel very privileged to work with Slawek and his wife Beata.
Welcome back! I hope you had a good last week. I was offline as my little man was sick again... Writing was totally out of picture (all mothers would know what is like to look after the sick child..) ... The good news is that Oscar is on the way to the recovery and I'm back in action.
Let's talk about the importance of buying quality shoes for your young ones. For a start the obvious reasons - the little ones can't express themselves, therefore they won't be able to tell you that the shoes are uncomfortable, tied, etc. I don't know about you but I don't buy cheap shoes anymore as I often find they not very comfortable, they smell, they don't breath brrr I rather have less shoes, but good quality.
There is more reasons to invest in good shoes for your kids
The opportunity is defined as a time or set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something... We all look for opportunities - whether it is in our personal or professional life... I'm not any different.. I don't believe in luck, but I believe that if you want to achieve something and you work for it you will get it.... it is just a matter of time....
Did you know that successful people fail more ? Do you know why?? it is very simple - because they try more.. if something doesn't work, they try something else, if something fails , they keep going... they don't give up... It is quite fascinating reading about successful people - Thomas Edison was told by his teachers he was ‘too stupid to learn anything’, or Walt Disney was told by his former newspaper editor that he ‘lacked imagination and had no good ideas’. What about Albert Einstein - As a child he didn’t start speaking until he was four, reading until he was seven, and was thought to be mentally handicapped.
But going back to the opportunities - they are everywhere,, we just need to open our eyes as well as our minds... Sometimes one conversation, or few pages of book, an article or a situation may change our perception.. We need to do something about it - take it further, take it with us on our life journey...
We all different and learn different ways - I like talking or rather listening to people, who are smarter than I am - I believe it is a great way to learn... there is one secret though - you must listen what the other person has to say.,, if you only talking you won't learn - you are basically repeating the information you already know...
This is how I took my opportunity with Gucio shoes...
I never thought of having my own business... A lot of my girlfriends were successfully running small companies, but I couldn't really see myself in any business, I was happy to to work on a salary.. My opportunity came few months , and I took it.. All I needed was one conversation with my partner,,, I mentioned to him that there is a lot of interest for Oscar's shoes ,and all he said was " Why don't you check if the owner has a distribution in Australia" - these were Karl's exact words .. Guess what? On the same evening i researched Gucio shoes, and messaged Slawek (the owner in Poland) about the distribution... A day later he answered, a month later I was the official distributor of Gucio shoes for Australia and New Zealand, and 3 months later I opened my online store ... Possible??? hell, yeah...
I met two ladies, who were interested in a distribution of Gucio shoes - one did go as far as asking few moms if they were interested in buying the shoes (they said no) so she gave up the idea, and the other one apparently went to see the owner in Poland and at she reckons it wasn't worth importing... Who knows how many more though of doing it? The road from thinking to actually doing can be very looong for some...
if you really want to do something in your life, even the smallest thing - MAKE IT HAPPEN NOW, not tomorrow, not next year , NOW is the time... The opportunities are waiting in the least expected places....
For me this journey has been incredible so far - I have learnt so much, and met so many wonderful people,,,, I know I'm already successful in my own way..
Success is where preparation and opportunity meet...
Grab your opportunity today ,,,,
Few years ago I wasn't even able to imagine buying clothes online,,, How do you choose it without trying it on ?? The shoes would be even harder....You want to touch it, see if they soft, what type of sole they have etc.. And buying kids shoes online sounds like a crazy idea.....
Today I buy clothes online, as well as 95% of my shoes.. I have few brands that I know and trust. I measure my foot to make sure the size is right ( the worse case scenario I can always send it back, which actually happened only once.... (Not too bad for over 30 purchases...).
So what about our kids? Well, think about the time when you have to buy shoes for your child or children and you take them to the shopping center,,, you want to buy something decent, good quality but your child likes the cheap, made in china shoes with the superman on it, or shiny lights... your battle is almost 100% lost... there is no way you are going to convince him or her to choose the good quality, leather shoes you had in mind... Of course you can do your homework and try to take them to the shop that only sells good shoes, but that also would be a bit hard in those big shopping centers,,, Thanks to the internet you can find the shoes you like and maybe give your kids the colour choice..
The other positive is when you order your shoes online, you child can try them on for much longer than in the shop... You can observe how your kid walks in it, if she'he looks comfortable... again, if there is something wrong you can send it back...
The whole shoe shopping experience goes to another level if you have 2 or more kids.. it can be very tiring and time consuming exercise..
Before you make the decision on shoe internet purchase do you homework - check the reviews on the brand you like, see what the exchange policy look like, whether you can send it back if you don't like it or if the size is wrong, etc.
What are you waiting for? the internet is waiting for you to start browsing...
i hope you will consider Gucio shoes as well....
I found this somewhere on the internet, and I really like it ... - I hope you will too.
A shoe can lift you up, literally. It can make you fell taller, stronger, like you are talking longer strides. It can make you run faster or walk slower, more sexily, as sexily like Marilin. It can cover all kinds of ground.
In the right shoes, you already feel like you are miles away.
Coming from the European background (where there is a lot of pressure on the standards and safety of the first shoes) I was very surprised to learn that there isn't really any standards or guidelines when it comes to baby/toddler shoes in Australia.
You can find information about which toys are safe, but with when it comes to baby/toddler shoes -as a seller you can sell whatever you like - it's up to the parents to decide if the shoes are safe /good for their children.
As much as i agree that parents have responsibility to research what they are buying, I strongly believe the government needs to put in place some sort of legislation/standards for the shoes that are allowed to be sold here. At least have some brands recommended by the Australian Podiatry Association.
Before I was involved with Gucio shoes, I liked buying shoes which were recommended by podiatrists. It gave me a bit of confidence and piece of mind, that the product must be good and safe for my boys (recommended by podiatrist right ? ) ... Really?
Well, Gucio shoes have obtained 'Healthy Foot Certificate' in Poland , so I decided to apply for something similar in Australia. I contacted Australian Podiatry Association to find out what are the steps I have to undertake to receive a similar certificate here. Few days later I received a phone call advising that I don't need anything in Australia to bring the shoes from overseas as there is no standards, therefore I can freely sell it here (that wasn't my question)... After the clarification.I was told there is no standards in Australia, hence the association doesn't provide any forms of certification or recognition that the shoes are safe. I couldn't work out how these big shoes brand have the information on their website that the shoes are recommended by podiatrist... I went back to check those website and then I realized that if one podiatrist recommend their shoes they just put that info on the website as podiatrist recommended...
I will still try to achieve some changes in this department, the only thing relevant on their website was the information about incorrectly fitted shoes https://www.podiatry.org.au/documents/item/1861.
I hope in future we can catch up with other countries and have more to say about standards for kids shoes.
Today's post is a bit more of a knowledge based and talks about baby's feet development and what to look for when choosing first shoes for your little ones. I have found some good information on the government's websites.
Most children begin to walk anywhere between 9 and 18 months . Most toddlers are flat-footed when they first start walking, or tend to turn their feet inwards, because muscle strength and ligament stiffness needs to catch up to other development. The flat-footedness nearly always improves as the bones develop and as the feet strengthen.
When toddlers are learning to walk, they should be in bare feet or a soft soled shoe as much as possible so they can feel what they touch with their feet and develop muscle strength. When toddlers have been walking on their own confidently for a period of time, they can progress to a firmer soled shoe. Toddlers feet grow very quickly and their shoe size may need updating every few months. Shoes that are too tight can hamper your child’s walking and cause problems, such as ingrown toenails.
Shoes for your toddler should ideally have:
If you are concerned about your child's walking seek professional help - see your GP, Peadtrician, Maternal and child health nurse or Podiatrist.
It is a question a lot of mum asks - when is a good time to buy the first shoes for your toddler? Which shoes are best for toddler?
I had a pair of Gucio shoes waiting for my son way before he started walking (luckily they fit)...
But if i hadn't, I would probably searched for the first shoes when Oscar showed the first sings of walking.
Just thinking logically - you can't tell what size they will be when they start walking (as we all know it could happen anywhere between 9-18 months or even later in some situation). For few months he only had one pair of shoes, then I bought him another one ( in case of emergency). The emergency sooner came when when Oscar decided to dump his shoes in the toilet...
Oscar was in his first Gucio shoes for almost 6 months (as they normally get 2 sizes out of the pair,) which then breaks the cost of the shoes a bit.
Sometimes, when I read comments saying that the best for a child is to stay barefoot, I always picture my son walking with no shoes - and just thinking about the glass, rubbish makes me nervous and anxious... . I agree -health wise it is probably the best option to keep them without shoes, but in reality you can only do it as long as they don't walk...
With the delivery on the same day, and shops open 7 days a week there is really no need to stock up and buy the shoes for a toddler before they start walking. What's more important is to find a pair that is suitable footwear for our precious first time walkers.
Gucio shoes can definitely help you with that :) Just read about our qualities and I'm sure you will love the brand as much as many mothers around the world.
AMy aim was to have one post a day for my blog and I'm really disappointed that I have failed to achieve that :(
I was going to allocate one hour in Singapore to write the blog (where we spent the last 11 days holidaying)... Unfortunately the first 5 days we were looking after Oscar, who had a high fever pretty much every day and night.. After 3 days we took him to the International Clinic and they told us it is viral and it should go away soon.. After another 2 days and almost 40 degrees fever we took the poor bugger to another doctor (recommended by our friends). The doctor told us that it is an infection as the virus doesn't last that long... Bronchitis was the diagnose..... After the first dose of antibiotic we could see the difference and on the second day Oscar was like 'brand new'...
Anyway balance didn't look that great - 5 days of holidays we couldn't really go anywhere and we were exhausted from the nights and also extremely worried.... We had this great plan to do a lot of water activities, which was now out of the picture due to Oscar's condition.. But we could still do other things like we went to China Town, we did River Safari, explored the Botanic Garden and of course shopping... I have to say I was amazed by the exclusive shops for kids they have in Singapore - Gucci, Dolce& Gabbana, Ferrari etc,,, polo t- shirt only $160, and the jacket $1k... llittle Gucci shoes for pre-walking baby only $260, $480 for toddler' shoes ...It seems that my Gucio shoes are total bargain :)
After those days I was mentally not ready to even think about Gucios, about writing the blog etc... so I just left it..
The question remains,,, travel or not to travel with little kids? Travel my friends.. yes we 'lost' 5 days, $600 in doctor's bills and few grey hair, but overall we really enjoyed the break, and we managed to get some rest,,,, we really did. We were staying with our friends in a beautiful house in Sentosa Cove, we even managed to go out for dinner without the baby (how good is that??)
My 3rd time in Singapore and I know it won't be the last...
Welcome to my Blog, You can find a bit about me here .. I'm passionate about promoting healthy shoes for children. I love my boys, simple life, good food, good quality jackets and of course good shoes:)
